Markdown opens ready to edit. The source remains visible enough to be trustworthy and quiet enough to read.

## Edit the source without a source pane

Markdown opens in the editing canvas by default, without first passing through a read-only page. There is no second writable representation: marks stay beside the content they shape, while headings, lists, quotes and code use typography to carry their identity. Moving the cursor does not hide marks or rebuild the page.

- Only Markdown is editable; reference formats remain read-only.
- Edits save back to the original file.
- Undo and the current selection stay with the same editor session.

## Tables and output preview

A reliable GFM table hides structural pipes and presents aligned columns while the Markdown source remains the only writable data. If the structure becomes ambiguous, Heedit reveals the source instead of guessing. Press Command-Return for an explicit read-only output preview, or export the current stable Markdown revision as PDF.
