Connect AI clients
Claude Code and Codex have built-in one-shot setup. Other Agents can connect by pasting an MCP snippet or work with the same real files, without being presented as verified integrations.
Choose the right connection

One-shot setup
Open Help → Setup Guide and choose Connect AI, or press Connect all in Settings › Connect. The same operation from the command line:
- Detects which clients are installed on this Mac and, for each, registers the MCP server, installs the Heedit Skill and adds the annotation hooks. Only Heedit's own entries are ever touched.
- The setup report lives in Settings › Connect: per-client status, delivery tier and any steps still left to you.
- Connect a single client with heedit install claude-code or heedit install codex; run heedit uninstall to remove everything symmetrically.

Built-in direct setup currently covers Claude Code and Codex. Manual configuration or a file workflow does not create a live connection by itself and never grants silent access to arbitrary files. Content requests made through Heedit still follow its confirmation rules; an Agent's separate file permissions remain governed by that Agent and the operating system.
